Meet Alabama's Finest | Ian from Americana Speed Shop
I met Ian from Americana Speed Shop the night before we took off to ride EDR. He had just came into town with a few buds from Alabama and finished most his sentences with “Roll Tide”. We loved him right away. Ian is no stranger to a good time, he’s put on stuff like the Catalina Wine Mixer, a literal ball buster of a good time, makes custom goods, and has been on numerous rides all over the US. He’s a solid dude who does a lot to make this community great and we are stoked to have part of this year’s Blue Ridge Stake Out as he creates the trophy for the “Longest Ride Award” for the guy or girl whose ridden the furthest to the Blue Ridge Stake Out. Get to know Ian of Americana Speed Shop riding from Birmingham Alabama.
I’ve been doing leather work since 2011 from my home “shop”. Americana Speed Shop was the name of a blog I had (back in the day when blogs were all the rage) so I’ve kept the moniker since then. For now, I do all my work from home but I have a few ideas for a brick and mortar. I’d love to ditch my day job at some point but for now it’s a hobby.
By far the most popular item I’ve made has been custom passport wallets for the El Diablo Run. I made a few back in 2013, my first EDR, and they have caught on. I’ve lost count but I estimate I’ve made close to 100 at this point. It’s fun for me and I think it keeps the stoke level high for people doing the run.\
I also have built a few bikes with the help of a lot of good friends. My last project was a 1969 Shovelhead chopper. I love the bike but intentionally left off a sissy bar so I would resist the urge to travel on it. I’ve got nothing to prove and I really enjoy munching miles on my FXR. That’s the bike I will be on at the Blue Ridge Stake Out.
I’m excited for the inaugural Blue Ridge Stakeout. I’ve taken several trips in TN/NC area but never made it to the Parkway. I look forward to getting to see a lot of friends that I don’t see often enough and riding some new roads!
